Safaricom Ethiopia Foundation is an independent charity registered with the Authority for Civil Society Organizations in Ethiopia with charity registration no. 7647.
Before the Foundation's launch in July 2025, Safaricom Ethiopia contributed over ETB 110 million to charitable initiatives and partnered with global development organizations and local NGOs to harness its digital capabilities for sustainable social impact.
The Safaricom Talent Cloud (STC) aims to onboard 10,000 young talents, with 5,205 participants already enrolled including 3,709 from five regional universities across Ethiopia. With generous support from JICA, full and partial subsidies were provided to female and economically disadvantaged applicants, expanding access to digital skills training.
Safaricom Ethiopia, in partnership with the Vodafone Foundation and Amref Health Africa, has launched a transformative initiative aimed at equipping Ethiopian youth with the digital skills, tools, and opportunities needed to succeed in today’s technology-driven world.
Safaricom Ethiopia has actively contributed to the advancement of digital education by equipping learning institutions with essential technology. As part of this effort, the company has donated laptops and routers with unlimited data to government high schools to enable students to connect to online learning platforms and prepare themselves for exams.
Through a collaboration between Safaricom Ethiopia, Hibret Bank, and the Agri-tech platform Lersha, 224 farmers successfully accessed 4.8 million ETB in input financing via M-PESA merchant payments. These loans supported the purchase of seeds, fertilizers, and other essential inputs, enabling improved productivity during the last agricultural season.
Empowering low-income women through device financing and digital income generation via M-PESA.
As part of our commitment to community support and humanitarian response, we have actively contributed to disaster relief efforts across various regions. Our interventions include providing emergency assistance during the landslide in Gofa and the earthquake in the Afar region, where affected communities were in urgent need of support.
We recognize that health is fundamental to the well-being and resilience of individuals and communities. That’s why we are committed to improving access to essential healthcare services, especially for vulnerable populations.
